Dean was born and raised in Darwen, near Blackburn. | He attended Darwen Vale high school, then went on to study at UEA and Glasgow, Scotland. He trained to be a civil engineer and worked all over the world, including Hong Kong, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates. In 1993 he returned to the UK to study for a one-year master's degree at the University of Nottingham. He completed this with a distinction and proceeded on to a PhD in the Institute of Engineering, Surveying and Space Geodesy. I met him in 1994 when he had just finished his Master's. Sadly I lost contact with him but would love to hear from him again.

He likes indie and goth music, like the Smiths, James, NMA, | nine inch nails, Souxsie and more. When in Nottingham he loved going to Rock City, especially on Saturday nights. He also likes alternative cinema; I know he enjoyed watching Delicatessen, although his favourite movie was Taxi Driver. He was interested in sadomasochism, although he was just starting to experiment when I met him. But he did have experiences with bondage and fisting.
